BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Fourteen large explosions rocked central Baghdad early on Friday as war planes roared overhead, a Reuters witness said.

Correspondent Nadim Ladki said the blasts in the center of the city came shortly after a series of explosions were heard in the south and southwest of Baghdad from the general direction of the airport.

U.S. Marines were fighting for control of the airport in the first ground attack in the capital in the 16-day battle to oust Iraqi President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites).
